Summer is an excellent time to focus on socialization, both for children and their families. Socialization events offer unique opportunities for social interaction, education development and just good old-fashioned fun.
During the O.C.E.A.N., Inc. Summer Socialization, Health Services staff discussed summer safety tips, including never leaving children and/or pets alone in a parked vehicle at any time. The agency Registered Dietitian Nutritionist spoke with parents about the nutritional value of a watermelon (one cup of watermelon is 45 calories) and the essential nutrients in other fruits and vegetables.
The kids had fun playing with the beach balls and had triangle watermelon slices as their snack. All children received take home items including a pail filled with a bubble wand, sunglasses, inflatable beach ball, hand sanitizer, first aid kit, toothbrush, toothpaste, crayons and coloring pages, tick prevention and WIC material.
It was a fun morning for all!
Watermelon Nutritional facts:
Vitamin A: Supports eye health and skin development
Vitamin C: Enhances immune function and collagen production
Vitamin B6: Plays a role in protein metabolism and nerve function
Folate: Essential for cell growth and development
Lycopene: An antioxidant that may protect against certain cancers
Thank you to the staff for preparing such a fun summer event that brought families together in such a meaningful way. Your shared ideas, collaboration and teamwork makes a difference!
